Description

This 1940s-era photograph by Vivienne Roberts shows Cherokee woodworker Johnson Catolster (1909-1988), his wife, Agnes Wayne Catolster, and their six children on the porch of their log home. Johnson Catolster sits in front with Phyllis Eugene; behind them, left to right, are Sarah, Joann, Mrs. Catolster, Salica, John Eric, and Gary Wayne. Catolster was a heavy equipment operator who developed his skill at woodworking and, during his off hours, made solid cherry bowls of all shapes and sizes. Catolster also served as a chairman of the Cherokee Tribal Council.
