Description
This 1940s-era photograph by Vivienne Roberts shows Cherokee woodworker Johnson Catolster (1909-1988) with four of his six children on the porch of their log home, the children (left to right) are probably Gary Wayne, Phyllis Eugene, Joann, and Salica. Catolster was a heavy equipment operator who developed his skill at woodworking and, during his off hours, made solid cherry bowls of all shapes and sizes. Catolster also served as a chairman of the Cherokee Tribal Council.
