Description

This undated postcard shows a photograph of Qualla Arts and Crafts Mutual, Inc., an artisan cooperative established in 1946. Such postcards and photographs were distributed to promote the sales of craft items as more tourists came to the western North Carolina mountains. The back of the postcard reads, ""This is the official display and marketing center for Qualla Arts & Crafts Mutual, Inc., of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. A truly beautiful shop showing only the very finest of the Cherokee Handicrafts. Unique in that it sells only authentic Cherokee made handicrafts. Here may be found a great variety of crafts of the Cherokee Indians: basketry, wood carving, wood turning, beadwork of original designs and others."" The photograph was taken by Gene Aiken and the postcard was produced by the Buckhorn Press of Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
