Description
A member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, Dorothy Thompson was born and raised in Big Cove, a remote section of the Qualla Boundary near Cherokee, North Carolina. She is the daughter of John and Charlotte Lottie Welch Lossiah, a basket weaver. Dorothy Lossiah Thompson is shown here with a white oak tray and two larger baskets. Her sisters, Martha Ross, Maggie Lossiah, and Jane Taylor also make baskets.
