Description

This six-page brochure, “Documentary of Six Cherokee Artists,” was produced to accompany a 1976 inaugural exhibit held in the new members’ gallery at Qualla Arts and Crafts Mutual, Inc., in Cherokee, North Carolina. At the time of the cooperative’s building renovation, there were 270 active members. The exhibit and brochure were produced by Qualla Arts and Crafts Mutual and the Indian Arts and Crafts Board with support from the North Carolina Arts Council and the American Indian Program of the Save the Children Federation. On view were honeysuckle baskets by Nancy Conseen, woodcarving and sculpture by Gilbert Crowe, rivercane basketry by Edmund Youndbird, pottery by Louise and John Henry Maney, jewelry by Richard Teesatuskie, and beadwork by Velma Lossiah. The brochure includes a short biography and quotes from each artist.
