In this letter of August 5, 1864 Ninian and Polly Ann Edmonston write to their sons B.B. and B.F. to ask about their well-being, having heard the news of the Union mining attack at Petersburg. They also discuss local results of the North Carolina gubernatorial election of 1864 and describe attacks on the local populace by Union raiders.
