Judy H. Leas’ 66-page paper titled The Civil War diary of Absalom Joshua Burum was completed spring 1965 while Leas was attending Fresno State College. Burum, a native of Tennessee, joined Colonel Thomas’ regiment September 27, 1862 and, as first sergeant, fought alongside Colonel William Stringfield and the rest of the Legion for over two and a half years. Leas’ paper covers A. J. Burum’s family background, his experience as it compares with other Confederate soldiers, an annotated transcript of his diary, and a list of dates and locations of Burum’s travels in 1864. Judy H.
