Description
This cornhusk doll was made by May Ritchie Deschamps (1896-1982) of Swanannoa, North Carolina, circa late 1940s. The doll is a woman wearing a dress and cape with a bow tied in front of her waist. Her face is drawn with markers. She is holding two sticks tied with red yarn. Deschamps is part of the Ritchie family of cornhusk doll-makers, whose figures are characterized by several unique wrapping techniques that are not used in other cornhusk traditions.
