Description

This photograph of Bonnie Logan Hensley holding her son John was taken by Doris Ulmann in 1933 or 1934. Bonnie Hensley and her husband Hayden Hensley were some of the first woodcarvers at the John C. Campbell Folk School participating in the cooperative that later came to be known as the Brasstown Carvers. Their woodcarving supplemented farm income and made it possible for them to purchase a house, often referred to as "the house that carving built."
