Description

This photograph shows Laura Green Cantrell (left) and Arminda Anderson Curtis (right) on the porch working a hand cotton jenny. The photograph was taken by Doris Ulmann when she came to Brasstown, N.C. in the summer of 1933. Laura Green Cantrell was the mother of Oscar Cantrell who was one of the first students at the John C. Campbell Folk School and became the resident blacksmith at the school. Arminda Curtis, known as "Aunt Mindy" Curtis, was the wife of Amos Curtis, and they lived in the community of Green Cove, N.C.
