Description
This undated black and white promotional photograph shows five pewter pins produced by the Penland Weavers and Potters sometime during the period 1940-1967. Handwritten on the back: "Pins - $1.00 each; 1. acorn; 2. dogwood; 3.-4. lge. dogwood; 5. Jenny Wren." No pewter ware was produced during WWII because of the need for metal during wartime. The Penland Weavers and Potters (originally called the Fireside Industries) were established in 1923 as a department of the Appalachian School. In 1938, Penland School of Handicrafts (now Penland School of Crafts) was incorporated and the Penland Weavers and Potters became associated with the new craft school.
