Description
This undated black and white promotional photograph shows examples of napkin clips and a bookmark produced and sold by the Penland Weavers and Potters sometime during the period 1940-1967. Handwritten below the photograph is a caption that reads "1. Napkin clips 1.00 (pewter) 2. Book Marks .50 (aluminum)." No pewter ware was produced during WWII because of the need for metal during wartime. The Penland Weavers and Potters (originally called the Fireside Industries) were established in 1923 as a department of the Appalachian School. In 1938, Penland School of Handicrafts (now Penland School of Crafts) was incorporated and the Penland Weavers and Potters became associated with the new craft school.
