Description
This eight page pamphlet explains the founding of the Fireside Industries of the Appalachian School (initially called the Appalachian Industrial School). The Fireside Industries later became known as the Penland Weavers and Potters. Of particular interest in this pamphlet is one of the earliest known lists of products produced by the Fireside Industries/Penland Weavers and Potters, photographic illustrations of some of those products, and a discussion of coverlets with an accompanying recipe for Indigo dye. From 1923 to 1938 the Appalachian School served as the umbrella institution under which the Penland Weavers and Potters were organized and Penland School of Handicrafts (now Penland School of Crafts) was established.
