Description
Mountain Milestones was a newsletter published by the Penland Weavers and Potters as a vehicle for disseminating news about the Penland community, the work of the Penland Weavers and Potters, and information on the summer Weaving Institutes. Two issues were published in 1932 and it was not published again until 1945. The newsletter was edited by Bonnie Willis Ford; the cover illustration by Bayard Wootten. This issue, Vol. 1, No. 1, published in July 1932, contains articles on the death of Aunt Cumi Woody, a local spinner, dyer, and weaver; the summer Weaving Institutes and Edward Worst; the resurrection of the Old Log Pottery; and the death for Psyche Webster, former superintendent of the Appalachian Industrial School. In 1938, the Weaving Institutes officially became the Penland School of Handicrafts (now Penland School of Crafts).
