Description

This map of Penland School of Handicrafts (now Penland School of Crafts) is one of a number of campus maps that have been printed over the years. They have served to promote the school, orient visitors, students and instructors, and to entertain the reader. With the passage of time they have become valuable documents that help to date the placement and construction of buildings, the changing topography of the land; as well as, providing cultural information about the greater Penland community. This particular map was used as the inside front and back cover pages for the 1940 catalog listing the summer classes being taught at Penland. Though, not signed, it is believed that the map was probably drawn by Howard C. "Toni" Ford.
