Description
This is a photograph of a watercolor painting done by Frances Goodrich of a mountain woman working at an old-fashioned loom. Goodrich was educated at the Yale School of Fine Arts before coming to western North Carolina as a Presbyterian missionary. She would often paint watercolors based on her North Carolina communities in the late 1890s and early 1900s. The watercolor depicted here was based on one of her own photographs (see Woman weaving on porch). This photograph of her watercolor was produced by Howard Studio, Asheville, N.C., and was most likely used for promotional purposes or inclusion in one of the many articles she wrote about Allanstand Cottage Industries.
