Description

This photograph provides a closer look at the design of a tufted bedspread, believed to have been sold through Allanstand Cottage Industries during the 1910s. The maker of this bedspread is unknown. Tufting was a domestic handcraft that was revived in the 1890s throughout the southeastern United States. The process became mechanized and continued as the manufactured chenille bedspreads that became popular in the 1940s and 1950s.
