Description

This pieced quilt was made by Eunice Leona Taylor Hall of Buncombe County, N.C. in the early 1900s. Constructed of cotton prints and pieced by hand, the quilting is done in a fan pattern at six stitches per inch. Unraveled fibers from feed sacks were used as the quilting thread. The backing is an "Alamance Plaid" fabric. The quilt maker Eunice Leona Taylor Hall (1868-1921) was born in Buncombe County and married Henry Stephen Hall (1860-1955). They resided in the Leicester community. The "State of Massachusetts" pattern is one of a series of state blocks that appeared in "Hearth and Home" magazine and other farm magazines produced by Vickery & Hill Publishing Company of Augusta, Maine from 1907-1912.
