Description

This 1923 letter from weaver Elmeda Walker to Frances Goodrich is personal in nature, letting Goodrich know where Walker is living and that she is not weaving any longer. Walker lived near Allanstand, North Carolina and Goodrich often relied on Walker for information and help with starting Allanstand Cottage Industries in the late 1890s and early 1900s. Goodrich acknowledged Walker's contributions in her book "Mountain Homespun." Walker was an expert production weaver and her work was used in the White House's Blue Mountain Room during Woodrow Wilson's presidency. Over the years, Walker and Goodrich developed a lasting friendship. A note in Goodrich's hand indicates that this is the last letter she received from Walker. Also included is a transcription of the letter done in the 1990s.
