This photograph shows an arrangement of coverlets and bed covers offered for sale by Allanstand Cottage Industries during the early 1900s. At the far left are strips of handmade fringe in various patterns that could be added to home linens and coverlets. A lightly penciled note at the bottom of the photograph identifies the three main coverlet patterns as (left to right) Four Wheels, Wheel of Fortune, and Double Irish Chain. Although the makers of these coverlets is unknown, Allanstand's main source of weaving came from Madison County, North Carolina during this time period. This photograph was taken inside the Allanstand Cottage Industries shop in Asheville, which opened in 1908. Unidentified pottery and baskets are visible in the background. The photograph was taken by Asheville photographer Herbert W. Pelton and was probably used in promotional literature or a price list for the shop.
