Description

This educational booklet accompanied an exhibit about blacksmithing titled Irons in the Fire and produced by the Mountain Heritage Center in 1992. The booklet is illustrated with black and white photographs, drawings of blacksmithing techniques, and an artist's conception of the Hanging Dog bloomery (ca. 1850). The brochure describes the development of blacksmithing particularly within western North Carolina and includes biographical information on individual artists. Featured smiths include Daniel Boone VI, Bea Hensley, Mike Hensley, Arch Miller, John Bulgin, Oscar Cantrell, Clifford Casey, and Albert Watson. Also shown is work by contemporary artists David Brewin, Paige Davis, Chuck Patrick, Joe Miller, and others.
