Description
This razor strap was contained in a tool chest belonging to woodworker Jesse Bryson Stalcup. This two-sided razor strap consists of a wooden slab with a handle and with leather affixed to the two flat sides. It is possibly handmade. It was used for fine blade sharpening. Stalcup was a skilled carpenter, millwright, and woodworker who worked in and around Waynesville and Macon County, North Carolina, as well as Hiawassee, Georgia, circa 1880s-1930. The chest contains a variety of woodworking tools typically used by craftsmen in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
