This handmade fiddle or violin is made from walnut, and pine or spruce. Evident through the sound hole on the back interior is an inscription "A. Manson Ingle maker 1873." An additional paper label also inside reads "Paternal grandfather of Hubert Hayes born Jan 26 1849 died Feb 4 1891." Hubert Hayes (d. 1964), born near Biltmore, N.C., created and produced the regionally-known Hubert Hayes Youth Jamboree. For over twenty-five years beginning in 1948, the Youth Jamboree helped give a start to talented youth musicians and dancers from western North Carolina.
