Description

The Southern Mountain Handicraft Guild met for its fall membership meeting in Brasstown, North Carolina on October 16, 1931. Meeting minutes generally contain committee reports, financial statement, new members, announcements of regional events, and discussion about special issues facing the organization. This particular meeting was the first to report on the Guild's management of Allanstand Cottage Industries which was transferred to the Guild on June 1, 1931. Lucy Morgan spoke about the plans for the Chicago World's Fair. Sarah Dougherty told about her work with the Cherokee Indians. The Southern Highland Handicraft Guild was founded in 1930 as the Southern Mountain Handicraft Guild. The name was changed in 1933 and again in the 1990s to the Southern Highland Craft Guild.
