Southern Highlanders, Inc.

The Southern Highland Handicraft Guild met for its annual membership meeting in Cashiers, North Carolina on October 7, 1936. Meeting minutes generally contain committee reports, financial statement, new members list, announcements of regional events, and discussion about special issues facing the organization. At this particular meeting shop manager, Agnes Loeffler, gave a financial report for Allanstand Cottage Industries. The idea of selling crafts in the national parks was discussed. Lucy Morgan reported on the Penland Weaving Institute. Mr. Johnson, acting director of the Southern Highlanders, spoke about that newly formed organization. The Southern Highland Handicraft Guild was founded in 1930 as the Southern Mountain Handicraft Guild. The name was changed to the Southern Highland Handicraft Guild in 1933 and again in the 1990s to the Southern Highland Craft Guild.
