These official minutes document the second organizational meeting for the Southern Mountain Handicraft Guild which was held at the Spinning Wheel shop in Asheville, N.C. on December 28, 1929. Meeting attendees discussed specifics of founding an umbrella organization that would include craft schools and production centers throughout the southern Appalachian region. They prepared to write the constitution for the guild and determined the classes of membership. They also drew up a list of other production centers and schools that would be invited for charter membership. The Southern Mountain Handicraft Guild was officially founded at its first meeting in March 1930 where the constitution and by-laws were accepted and officers elected. The organization's name was changed to the Southern Highland Handicraft Guild in 1933 and again in the 1990s to the Southern Highland Craft Guild.
