This pottery figure of an angel is one of a pair and was made by Clara Maude Cobb Hilton (1885-1969) probably between 1925 and 1935. Hilton Pottery was a family pottery which made functional pottery starting just after the Civil War. The pottery, originally located in Catawba County, moved to McDowell County in 1934. Clara Hilton took over the pottery after her husband's death, adding a line of decorative work and figurines for which she became known. Subsequent generations of this extended family continue to run potteries throughout the region.
