Stuart Nye Hand Wrought Silver (Asheville, N.C.)

This hand wrought sterling silver dogwood jewelry (ring, two pins, and earrings) were produced by Stuart Nye jewelers during the 1960s or 1970s, but they are typical of the patterns designed and produced in the 1930s. Stuart Nye first visited the Asheville area as a patient at the Oteen Veterans Hospital in 1923. He moved to Asheville permanently in 1928 and began making hand wrought silver jewelry in 1933. Nye's first design was the dogwood flower which has become the shop's signature. By 1948 he had established a production center with trained craft workers and a retail shop. The business still operates today in the same location producing hand made jewelry.
