Description
This pottery figure of a woman with a hat was made by Clara Maude Cobb Hilton (1885-1969) probably during the 1920s. This early figure is roughly painted with a clear overglaze. Hilton Pottery was a family pottery which made functional pottery starting just after the Civil War. The pottery, originally located in Catawba County, moved to McDowell County in 1934. Clara Hilton took over the pottery after her husband's death, adding a line of decorative work and figurines for which she became known.
