Description

These roosters were carved from dogwood by William Perry Smith (1904-1965), of Buncombe County, North Carolina, circa the 1930s to early 1940s. Smith, commonly known as Willie Smith, lost both legs in a train accident and was able to support his family of five with the earnings he made from carving dolls and chickens.
