The Southern Highland Handicraft Guild met for its fall membership meeting on September 29-30, 1943 at Asheville College in Asheville, North Carolina. Meeting minutes generally contain committee reports, financial statements, new members, announcements of regional events, and discussion about special issues facing the organization. At this particular meeting Marguerite Bidstrup spoke for the Education Committee and presented the standards for becoming a Master Craftsman. The Joint Committee on the Merger of the Southern Highland Handicraft Guild and the Southern Highlanders presented a prepared report of the arguments favoring a merger. Genevieve Lawler spoke about the "Guild and its Future." Fred McCuistion of the General Education Board spoke about the Board's work in the South. Genevieve Lawler spoke for the Museum Committee which had move that collection to the Associate Arts Camp. Lucy Morgan proposed that the Guild think about having a craft fair. George Bent took the minutes for the meeting. The Southern Highland Handicraft Guild was founded in 1930 as the Southern Mountain Handicraft Guild. The name was changed to the Southern Highland Handicraft Guild in 1933 and again in the 1990s to the Southern Highland Craft Guild.
