Description
Roby Buchanan of Hawk, North Carolina was a self-taught lapidary, meaning that he collected and cut gemstones and minerals. Originally he created his own machinery for cutting the facets of the stones he found in the mountain region. The photograph was taken by Edward L. Dupuy at the 1952 Craftsman's Fair of the Southern Highlands in Asheville, North Carolina.
