Description

This undated basket was made by Rebecca Grant. The basket is honeysuckle and white oak woven over wide white oak splints. Vase baskets became popular in the 20th century in response to the tourist trade. The honeysuckle was dyed with walnut to yield the brown color that runs up the side of the vase. Walnut, used by Cherokee basket weavers to make dye, is native to the region.
