This weaving fragment is included in a sample book assembled by Frances Goodrich, most likely during the 1920s. Frances Louisa Goodrich (1856-1944) was among the first to promote a revival of weaving in the North Carolina mountains, having founded Allanstand Cottage Industries in 1896. Later, the shop moved to Asheville. The pattern is on the tenth page of the sample book and is tagged with the shop address in Asheville and the pattern name "Double Snow Ball". The swatch of fabric seems to have been cut from a larger piece; and the edges have been whip-stitched to prevent raveling.
