Description
his business card and invitation are examples of early promotional materials developed by Qualla Arts and Crafts Mutual, Inc., a Cherokee artisan cooperative run for and by members of the Eastern Band. Located in the town of Cherokee, on the Qualla Boundary, the cooperative was established in 1946. This invitation is dated 1949 and commemorates the opening of a storefront sales gallery. From the 1949 until the 1960s, Qualla Arts and Crafts was located on Highway 441, on the grounds of the Boundary Tree, a major resort in town. This invitation was most likely sent by Gertrude Flanagan, the co-op manager, to a relative in New York city.
