This undated small effigy figure is made of steatite, more commonly known as soapstone, and is shown here on a wooden base. It was made by John Julius Wilnoty (1940-2016), a self-taught carver and member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. The carving is just a few inches tall.
