Description

Zebulon Weaver (1872-1948) was a lawyer and U.S. Representative from western North Carolina. He was a member of the North Carolina Park Commission and was involved in the land acquisition process that went towards establishment of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and development of the Blue Ridge Parkway. In this letter Mark Squires, Chairman of the North Carolina Park Commission, notes that by January 1st contributions towards setting up of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park from North Carolina and Tennessee had totaled approximately $500,000 which was half of the goal. The Commission now planned to raise money from northern and eastern sections of North Carolina and Squires hoped every member of the Commission and the Advisory Committee of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park would provide their cooperation towards this meeting this goal.
