On the reverse of this image is written, "Parsons and Gregory's Balds- on Tenn. - N.C. state line at western end of Great Smokies and on Appalachian Trail - as seen from Appalachian Trail along Yellow Creek Mountain about 5 miles From Tapoco, N.C. -Roth July 31, 1932." The photograph is in the records of the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club. The photographer, Albert Gordon "Dutch" Roth (1890-1974), was an employee of the Southern Railroad and an avid photographer. The club was formed after a group of outdoor enthusiasts hiked up to Mount LeConte in October 1924. Established in Knoxville, Tennessee, the first official club hike was led by Roth in December 1924.
