Description

On the reverse of this image is written, "Mt. Le Conte - Brushy - Mt. Winnesoka, with Cove Mountain dimly in the background between Brushy + Mt. Winnesoka, as seen from Laurel Top, on the Appalachian Trail - Roth Aug. 6, 1933." The photograph is in the records of the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club. The photographer, Albert Gordon "Dutch" Roth (1890-1974), was an employee of the Southern Railroad and an avid photographer. The club was formed after a group of outdoor enthusiasts hiked up to Mount LeConte in October 1924. Established in Knoxville, Tennessee, the first official club hike was led by Roth in December 1924.
