Zebulon Weaver (1872-1948) was a lawyer and U.S. Representative from western North Carolina. He was a member of the North Carolina Park Commission and was involved in the land acquisition process that went towards establishment of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and development of the Blue Ridge Parkway. This correspondence--a set of two letters--between Luther E. Mauney and Zebulon Weaver centers around the possible routes of the park to park highway in North Carolina. Luther E. Mauney to Zebulon Weaver, November 21, 1933 In this letter Mauney commends Weaver’s work towards establishing a park-to-park highway extending through Western North Carolina and requests that this highway come as far as Murphy, North Carolina, and to aid Mr. Roosevelt to develop water powers on the Hiawassee and its tributaries. Zebulon Weaver to Luther E. Mauney, December 18, 1933 In this letter Weaver states that he too was interested in the development of these areas-Clay, Cherokee, and Graham counties-and he would support the possibility of extending the parkway through to Murphy.
