Zebulon Weaver (1872-1948) was a lawyer and U.S. Representative from western North Carolina. He was a member of the North Carolina Park Commission and was involved in the land acquisition process that went towards establishment of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and development of the Blue Ridge Parkway. This correspondence between R. L. Doughton, Chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means in the House of Representatives, and Zebulon Weaveer-a set of three letters-discuss the probability of the scenic Parkway being located in North Carolina. R.L. Doughton to Zebulon Weaver, June 27, 1934 In this letter Doughton assures Weaver that he was doing his best to convince Secretary Ickes to build the scenic Parkway in North Carolina. R. L. Doughton to Zebulon Weaver, September 3, 1934 In this letter Doughton mentions that Secretary Ickes was going to hold a hearing in Asheville in September regarding the location of the scenic Parkway and Doughton was willing to be present there. Zebulon Weaver to R. L. Doughton, September 8, 1934 In this letter Weaver expresses his disappointment about Ickes cancelling the Asheville hearing but hopes that they would still be successful in locating the Parkway in North Carolina.
