Description
This group of hikers was photographed on the Appalachian Trail along the Tennessee-North Carolina line between White Rock and Low Gap. The photograph was taken by Albert Gordon "Dutch" Roth (1890-1974), an avid photographer and leader of the first official hike sponsored by the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club in 1924. Apparently, Roth did not print his images as these are stamped “Jim Thompson Co. Knoxville Master Photo Finishers,” indicating they were probably printed by fellow hiking club member James E. (Jim) Thompson (1880-1976).
