Description

Zebulon Weaver (1872-1948) was a lawyer and U.S. Representative from western North Carolina. He was a member of the North Carolina Park Commission and was involved in the land acquisition process that went towards establishment of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and development of the Blue Ridge Parkway. In this letter to Weaver states he has succeeded in pursuing the concerned parties to give to the park the “Cataloochee lands” for a sum of $1500 through they did desire to retain possession of the land till the state turned the same over to the federal government. Hardin ends by stating the deal could be drawn if Weaver found this arrangement to be effective.
