Description

Mary Elizabeth Mingus Stillwell (b. 1880) was a member of the Mingus family who built Mingus Mill in 1886. In 1936, the mill was restored by the Civilian Conservation Corps and put back into operation as a demonstration mill. Water is diverted from Mingus Creek via a canal and flume to turn turbines that provide power to the mill. The mill is located just north of the Oconaluftee Vistor Center near the North Carolina entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
