Description
These ten topographic maps produced by the United States Geological Survey were collected by Horace Kephart (1862-1931), noted naturalist, woodsman, journalist, and author. After moving to western North Carolina in 1904, Kephart became fascinated by the Appalachian landscape and culture and collected clippings, photographs, and maps of the region throughout his life. Five of the maps are from the Cowee Quadrangle and five are from the Mt. Guyot Quadrangle. When placed together, the eight quadrangles form a section of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
