Description
This photograph of Craggy Flats taken from Craggy Pinnacle, a peak in the Great Craggy Mountains, by Chase P. Ambler (1865-1932) is part of a collection documenting the activities of the Appalachian National Park Association. Ambler, an Asheville based physician, played an important role in getting the Asheville Board of Trade to organize a parks and forestry committee which laid the foundation for the establishment of the Association in 1899. George S. Powell was the Association’s first president and Ambler, who has been credited with its subsequent accomplishments, was the secretary. Ambler deposited this collection in 1929 to the State Archives of North Carolina at Raleigh from where they were moved in 2012 to the Western Regional Archives located in Asheville.
