Mountains

Description

Mount LeConte is the 3rd highest peak in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, topping out at 6,593 ft. This view of LeConte was taken from Chimney Tops, an adjacent mountain that is part of the Sugarlands. The photograph, and others in this series, is included in the records of the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club, formed after a group of outdoor enthusiasts hiked up to Mount LeConte in October 1924. The back of the photograph is annotated with the names of individual peaks. The back is also stamped “Jim Thompson Co. Knoxville Master Photo Finishers,” indicating it was probably printed by hiking club member James E. (Jim) Thompson (1880-1976).
