Description

Charlies Bunion is situated along the state line between Sevier County, Tennessee and Swain County, North Carolina. At 5,565 feet, the distinctive face of the mountain includes a boulder-like protrusion at its peak. This photograph, with others in this series, are included in the records of the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club, formed after a group of outdoor enthusiasts hiked up to Mount LeConte in October 1924. The photograph was made by Eben Alexander, Jr. (1913-2004), a neurosurgeon and native of Knoxville.
