This photograph, with others in this series, are included in the records of the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club, formed after a group of outdoor enthusiasts hiked up to Mount LeConte in October 1924. The photograph was made by Eben Alexander, Jr. (1913-2004), a neurosurgeon and native of Knoxville. There are similar images by Alexander and all are taken on Charlies Bunion. Charlies Bunion is situated along the state line between Sevier County, Tennessee and Swain County, North Carolina.
