Description
This photograph, taken from Mt. Mingus, shows Indian Gap with part of the state-line range in the distance. Indian Gap was the original pass through the Smokies, replaced in the mid-1930s by Newfound Gap Road. This picture was made by Harvey Benjamin Broome (1902-1968), Knoxville attorney, an avid conservationist, and advocate for the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Broome was active during the early years of the Wilderness Society and was a member of the Great Smoky Mountains Conservation Association. The photograph is in the collection of the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club.
